Business in Florence

The Florence Township is well positioned for mass commercial development. The following improvements were made making Florence Township a prime location for development.

  • installed water and sewer on 1.5 miles of Route 130
  • upgraded the sewer treatment facility
  • erected a second 1 million gallon elevated water tank
  • refurbished the primary 1 million gallon water tank
  • gained control of the former John A. Roebling & Son's Wire Mill

Areas of the community are designated as redevelopment areas and are being examined by the Florence Township Redevelopment Agency for re-use and revitalization.

Our workforce is comprised of highly skilled, well educated, people. Generation after generation have worked and built to make Florence Township businesses grow and prosper. From its humble beginnings as a foundry town creating pipes and fittings for the cities of the world to its most recent endeavors creating steel wire for the building industry, Florence Township workers have long past on the grit and determination of success through hard work.

Florence Township is strategically located to provide access to the northeast corridor. Modern, safe and well maintained roads, highways and interstates all provide a seamless link to the many metropolitan markets along the eastern seaboard. Route 295, 130, 95, 206, and Route 1 are all 15 minutes or less away from our town. Florence Township also offers direct access to the New Jersey Turnpike and Pennsylvania Turnpike via New Jersey Turnpike Interchange #6 and the Delaware River Bridge.

Shipping and freight rail service is also readily available. A heavy rail line runs north-south through Florence Township, and the Delaware River, with a deep-water channel, marks our western border.

Commuters will soon enjoy a passenger rail line that will have two stops in Florence Township. The Southern New Jersey Light Rail Line will be operational by spring of 2003. This line will link the communities between Trenton and Camden. Joined by the train service available in the Trenton Station, and those in Camden at the Walter Rand Transportation Center, commuters can travel by train from Philadelphia to New York without using their cars. The system is even being considered for further extensions deeper into Trenton.

Two of the first companies to invest in Florence are the River Terminal Corporation and the Whitesell Corporation.

River Terminal recently acquired the former Superfresh distribution warehouse and shipping facility on Cedar Lane. Major improvements were made to the buildings and the utilities that River Terminalserve them. Flex space is available from the 335,000 square feet on site. Expansion projects are also in the works for property immediately adjacent the existing facility.
